Important Information

  • Every sexually active woman should know her HIV status
  • Some women are unaware of the sexual and needle-sharing behaviors of current and previous partners
  • Even if you believe that you are not infected, the best way to know for certain is to be tested
  • It is especially important for pregnant women, and women thinking about becoming pregnant to be tested for HIV
  • An HIV+ woman can pass the virus to her baby during pregnancy
  • There is treatment available that can greatly reduce the changes to the baby also becoming infected.
